Greenfield FC's Under 18s produced a performance that belied their young years, recording a commanding 4-0 victory over Northside Academy to book their place in the Regional Youth Cup semi-finals. The result showcased the exceptional talent being developed in our youth academy.
From the opening whistle, it was clear that coach Sarah Mitchell had prepared her players perfectly for this quarter-final clash. The team pressed high, moved the ball with precision, and created chances with an ease that left their opponents chasing shadows.
Goals Galore
The breakthrough came in the 18th minute when academy star Liam Chen collected the ball on the edge of the area, shifted it onto his left foot, and curled a beautiful effort into the far corner. It was a goal worthy of winning any match, and it set the tone for what was to come.
"These players have worked so hard all season. They deserve this success, and I couldn't be prouder of them." - Coach Sarah Mitchell
The second goal arrived just before half-time, with midfielder Sophie Williams finishing off a sweeping team move that involved all eleven players. The intricate passing and movement was reminiscent of the first team at their best.
Second Half Dominance
The second period saw Greenfield continue their dominance. Centre-back Jake Thompson added a third with a powerful header from a corner, before striker Emma Roberts completed the rout with a clinical finish in the 78th minute.
The clean sheet was equally pleasing for the coaching staff, with goalkeeper Max Davies making several smart saves to deny Northside any consolation.
The semi-final draw will take place next week, with Greenfield now just two wins away from lifting the trophy. Based on this performance, they will fear no opponent.
